Basil, You Sweet Thing
Today's the first post of my summer series of delicious recipes. Some are old classics, others are new and inspired by daily life. Either way, I hope you enjoy them, share them with loved ones, and write comments to tell me all about everything you decide to make!
The first is Thai inspired Turkey Stir-Fry.
I decided to make this recipe by using what was left in my fridge. Yep, this is a leftover meal, and one that my family happens to love! The great thing about using what you have is that it will taste great, and it will also be easier on the wallet. The most important part of it for me is that it allows me to show my kiddos that making something out of what looks like nothing can really turn out to be a wonderful thing!
The benefits of Basil are also not to be out done. It is high in copper, iron, calcium, Vitamin K and omega fatty acids. It also has anti-anxiety properties, and has been shown to reduce levels of cortisol in the body. It detoxifies the liver and because of its high iron, can be very helpful to women during menstruation to replenish some of the iron lost. Basil also has anti-bacterial properties and has DNA protecting flavonoids.

Stir Fry Sauce
⅔ cup cilantro
2 tablespoons of Virgin coconut oil
⅔ cup parsley
⅔ Cup Thai basil or regular Basil is fine.
2 cloves garlic, peeled
2 tablespoons peeled and chopped fresh ginger
2 tablespoons fresh Lime juice
1 tablespoon GF fish sauce
1 tablespoon Virtuous Living's Hope (If you don't have hope order it here sales@VirtuousLiving.com use, fresh basil, coriander, red chili flakes, and lemongrass. Place items in whole form in cheesecloth, and add to oil before cooking the vegetables. Remove the pouch from the pan, and continue with the recipe)
1 tablespoon Red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon Raw Honey
1 pinch Virtuous Living Himalayan Pink Salt
Whisk in all liquid ingredients, add spices, herbs, ginger and honey. Whisk together thoroughly and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
Thai Turkey Stir Fry w/ Fresh Basil & Peppers
1 lb. Ground Turkey
1 yellow onion, sliced
1 red Bell pepper, sliced
1 yellow pepper, sliced
2 - 3 garlic cloves, sliced to flavor oil
1 - 2 cup Fresh basil, chopped
2 Tbsp Virtuous Living's Love
In a large frying pan or Wok, heat the pan over high heat for about 1 minute. Add coconut oil, and fresh sliced garlic. Leave garlic in oil for about 1 minute. Remove garlic.
Add onions, and sauté, add peppers, sauté until tender.
Remove peppers and onions from pan, and set aside.
Add ground turkey to the pan. Brown turkey, add Love. Continue cooking until browned through.
Add peppers, onions, back to the ground turkey. Combine thoroughly. Add chopped Basil, and cook until Basil is just slightly wilted. Pour in Stir Fry sauce, and allow it to incorporate with all the ingredients. Mixing gently, let cook about 1 minute. Remove from heat.
Serve over brown rice, or Gluten Free noodles. Enjoy!
